Bull Elk Painting

I had a great time painting this commissioned piece for my friends Chris and Erica!

“Bull Elk” measures 48”x36”. Oil Paint on Canvas.

The background is composed of multiple layers of paint applied at different times. Using multiple techniques, the paint was pulled away in random locations to reveal layers of paint below. This created an interesting look and feel to the background making it look like trees or sky or snow (or what ever else the viewers imagination thinks up.) I envision this Bull Elk in the foothills of Colorado in October. The Elk is in Rut and calling for a mate. The season is in change and snow has begun to show high in the mountains. Plumes of Aspen are changing in color from green to gold.
